The
focus of this entry-level training will be on Co-dependency.
During this day-long workshop we will look at the
characteristics that are common to people who have been raised
in a home with chemical dependency. Areas that will be explored
are the physical effects of Co-dependency; the masks
Co-dependents wear, as well as boundary setting; roles/rules in
the family; the Co-dependent relationship, stages and treatment.
The
goal of this training is to provide participants with a current
understanding of Co-dependency, an awareness of the illness, how
it impacts the family, and the skills necessary to help the
client.
Objectives:
Upon
completion participants will be able to:

Identify at least three characteristics of Co-dependency
-
Discuss common Co-dependent patterns
-
Identify the masks of Co-dependency, such as workaholism,
chemical dependency, eating disorders, etc.

Learn about counter-transference and how it can impact on
relationships with clients

Recognize survival roles that develop in the addicted family
system
-
Learn how Co-dependency recovery parallels alcoholism/drug
abuse recovery
Presenters:
Marie MacPherson, BS, CASAC, CPP,
was
Coordinator of Community Education for The Prevention Council
for over 15 years and recently retired. She has over 18 years of
experience in the field of addictions, has developed,
implemented, and facilitated numerous prevention programs for
professionals, as well as being a parenting educator.
Joanna Albertson, BHS, CASAC,
has over 20 years experience working in the Human Services
field. She was employed by Saratoga Co. Alcoholism & Substance
Abuse Services for 16 years as a counselor/therapist/educator.
For the past 10 years she has been conducting educational
programs in the community, as well as offering women’s retreats
in the Capital District.

training is provided under NYS OASAS Provider Certificate No.
0727 and 0737, and is acceptable for meeting CASAC/CPP/CPS
education and training requirements for six (6) credit hours.
