Testimonial
During a small group activity at a MircoWave Anger
Management class, one of the third grade boys was really
challenging one of our 5th grade peer leaders. This
activity is peer leader driven and centers around brain storming
healthy ways to deal with anger. The third grader repeatedly
gave ideas that were violent in nature. Consistently, the peer
leader responded with “that is what we want to avoid. Hurting
someone is never the answer to the problem”. Later the peer
leader shared with me how good he felt about how he handled the
situation and that he believed he had truly made a difference.
I have since learned that the
school counselor chose this peer leader against the advice of
some faculty members. He comes from a rather troubled family
where anger is not dealt with in a constructive nor healthy
way. Despite his home environment, this 11-year-old is a talented
student who is known for his kindness and continued involvement
in MircoWAVE and Wave -- and for fostering his already-growing
inner strength.
