Testimonial
One student who has really benefited from SAP is a young man who
is now a senior. He was really struggling when I first met him
as a freshman. He is a child of an alcoholic whose mother is
constantly dating and living with men who are abusive verbally
and physically to her. There is a lot of substance abuse in the
home as well. This young man was a nervous wreck when I first
met him. His self esteem was in the gutter and he had symptoms
of extreme anxiety, as child of alcoholics tend to have. Because
of this, he was very vulnerable to substance abuse and peer
pressure.
I think that
weekly visits with the Student Assistance Counselor have helped
him to reframe a lot of self-defeating thinking, helped him to
communicate better with his mother, and to clearly identify
goals for his future. It has also helped him to see that
substance abuse is not the answer for his problems. He is
currently a drug free student who will graduate this year and go
on to college. He has just been so strong and has done a great
job.
