Executive Director

The Executive Director is hired by and is responsible directly to the board of directors. An annual performance review will be drafted by the Executive Committee and administered by the president of the board of directors.


Major Duties and Responsibilities
 

Agency Relationships. Direct involvement with governmental and private funding and oversight agencies. These include Saratoga County and its agencies, NYS agencies, particularly OASAS and the Department of Health, school district officials, foundation officials, and other related groups.

Fiscal OversightResponsible for budget development and subsequent management throughout the year. Also responsible for other key functions including - Supervision of spending, accountability to funding sources, procurement of insurance, check signing, payroll confirmation, office site lease negotiation, work with consultants, taxes, line of credit management, and all other relevant financial issues.

Fundraising.  This includes direct and delegated work relating to grant writing and other funding sources to sustain mission, meet approved budget, and enhance program operations.

Performance and Compliance Oversight.  This includes all contracts in consultation with program supervisors.

Personnel Oversight.  Ultimate responsibility in consultation with first line management for hiring and firing, training, work time, program supervision, evaluation, and grievances. Direct supervision of management team members, financial manager, and office manager.

Principles of Effective Prevention.  Ensure the highest industry standards and principals of effective prevention are met in the agency. Maintain the highest level of personal knowledge and skill in prevention. Arrange for ongoing personnel training and staff development. Oversee regular needs assessment, program supervision and evaluation.

Public Relations.  Primary responsibility for agency visibility, public relations, and community image. Active membership in regional and state organizations, coalitions, boards, as relevant or requested. Due to the proximity of Saratoga County to the state capital, there is a responsibility for a high level of cooperation with state funding agencies and willingness to represent the field in meetings, and other initiatives involving state agencies and the legislature.

Outside Agency Coordination.  Work with other agencies, institutions, governmental units, and coalitions. Maintain and encourage collegial, open relationships with partners. Play a primary role in developing community and regional partnerships in order to enhance the effectiveness of the agency’s message.

Oversight of Agency Policies and Procedures. Responsible for setting official calendar, office closing, exceptions to written policies, and recommending revisions to board of directors.

Strategic Planning.  In conjunction with the board of directors, draft strategic plans and ensures appropriate actions and follow-up is made.

Support the Board of Directors.  In consultation with Executive Committee, arrange for board meetings, set agendas, maintain correspondence, obtain outside resources, and provide other services as directed. Work with board to maintain membership, recruit new members, provide for board training and individual support, provide staffing for committees and board initiatives. Provide staff involvement as requested for board special events, such as fundraising events. Encourage board involvement in agency activities and initiatives.

Vision.  With input from the board of directors, set the vision for the agency. This will be part of the strategic plan.


Qualifications

♦ Master’s Degree in Education, Administration, Social Work, or related field.

♦ Must have a minimum of five years’ experience in prevention or related field, including supervision of multiple employees.

♦ C.P.P. preferred.

♦ Proven track record in delivering results and success in key areas, such as fundraising.
