The Saratogian
While there were some wonderful parties and
fundraisers this winter, I was resting up in chilly
Florida for the summer season ahead.
My party season actually started Sunday, April 18,
at Saratoga National Golf Club, where The Prevention
Council presented a stupendous “Fashion Fling” and
more, raising close to $11,000 to aid their services
to youth, family and community.
Women are always ready to shop ‘til they drop and to
help them along the council had dozens of vendors
featuring women’s apparel, jewelry, handbags, and
hair, kitchen, makeup and pastry suggestions lining
the outer periphery of the club’s upstairs. Guests
also could have tarot card readings for a fee.
Mistress of ceremonies TV Channel 13 anchor Benita
Zahn added a touch of elegance when she introduced
Judy Ekman, the popular Prevention Council executive
director, who is soon leaving after devoting 30
years to keeping at-risk children and teens safe and
drug free. After a brief explanation of the
council’s projects, Ekman thanked Robin Litfin,
special events coordinator, “for a job well done.”
Many others helped make the afternoon a success,
including the hard-working Robin Ambrosino.
A delectable luncheon featuring Caesar salad and
Mediterranean chicken was topped off by a
scrumptious Italian crumb pastry, fruit and vanilla
ice cream.
The highlight of the day was fashions presented by
Frivolous, Rockabella and Saratoga Trunk. Moderators
Elizabeth Jameson of Frivolous, Jackie Szurek of
Rockabella and Natalie Sillery of Saratoga Trunk
introduced 30 models, who paraded down the runway in
gorgeous seasonal fashions. The fun-loving Sillery
added her own fashion quirk, wearing flashing green
glasses.
The dresses and gowns were mostly strapless and
bright colored. Jewelry was bold and chapeaux a
wonderful mix of styles.
The afternoon concluded with a door prize raffle.
Some of the winners were Katie Green, Marcia
McDonald and Jean Hayes.
Spotted in the crowd of close to 200 included Deanna
Alonzo and her mom Ellen, Kathy Crumb, Annie
Krasnicki, Brenda Lee (of Wishing Well fame) and
daughter Susan Lee Laing, Terry Calkins, Maria
Harrison, Delores and Leahe Parillo, Lynne Grace,
Janice White and Claire and Susie Brown.
